There is a unique beauty within each one of us. I want to capture that in you. I've found that the photographs that I make when people are just being themselves to be the most amazing captures. Laughing ... playing ... thinking. I want you to simply be you.
I don't recommend having everyone in the family wear the same clothing, because I want each of you to showcase your own personalities. Children will collaborate much better if they are comfortable in their clothing, and if they were given the opportunity to pick out their own outfit. Images will be much more telling and less contrived if your child feels comfortable and confident. I love a child who shows up proudly wearing a tutu!
Let your children run around and have fun during the photo shoot -- in fact I actively encourage it. Children's most beautiful expressions occur when they are doing something fun. I'm likely to run around with them, to keep the mood lighthearted and fun. I will not ask your children to sit still and smile for the camera unless I feel that they are in the mood for it.
My goal is not to create the "perfect" portrait of you. Rather it is to capture who you truly are. And who you truly are is beautiful. So if you want to leave the matching outfits at home, please do. Come just as you are. Relax. Have fun. Enjoy yourself. Be yourself. You are, after all, a uniquely beautiful human being.
